French version of Carey & Lee's 1822 map of the state, showing surveyed portions divided by townships, Indian villages, and the Bounty Lands between the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers reserved for veterans of the War of 1812. Red dots mark the Fort Dearborn Massacre and Col. Russell's raid against the Potawatomi near present day Peoria. The text puts the events in 1813, but they occurred in 1812.
