[Philippines]

[Philippines] Anson, A Chart of the Channel in the Philippines Islands through which the Manila Ga leon passes together with the adjacent Islands. London, 1767. 28¼ x 21. Full wash color. Part of the lower margin close-trimmed by the binder; a few edge tears repaired, one extending 1" into the map. VG overall. $1,250.00

A striking engraving, with large compass rose and rhumb lines. The story of Anson and the men of the Centurion taking the fabled Manila Galleon, after a voyage of incredible hardship, is among the most remarkable in the history of the Royal Navy. Reference: Quirino, Philippine Cartography (1320-1899).
