[Mid-Atlantic, New England, Canada]

Laurie & Whittle, A New and Correct Map of the British Colonies in North America Comprehending Eastern Canada with the Province of Quebec, new Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Government of Newfoundland: with the Adjacent States of New England, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, May 12,1794. 19 x 26. Outline color. Fine. $950.00

A detailed map of the region from the upper reaches of Chesapeake Bay to Newfoundland and Labrador, and west to James Bay and Lake Erie. A note below the cartouche explains fishing rights granted by treaty. Western New York is blank except for a note that "This vast Tract of Land...is not yet Surveyed." The New York-Pennsylvania border is north of its present location, ending at Oswego on Lake Ontario. Thus the region from Buffalo to Syracuse is part of Pennsylvania. A Beaver sits atop the Rococo cartouche. Reference: Stevens & Tree, Comparative Cartography #65 (c).
