Five carte-a-figure maps with vignettes on four sides of the world map, and three sides of the continent maps. Represents a high point in the melding of baroque decorative art with cartography during the Netherlands' "Golden Age of Atlases." The continental maps have vignettes of regional inhabitants and views of cities on three sides, and are filled with ships, sea monsters and fish in the oceans while creatures such as elephants, ostriches and camels wander about the land. The world map is the most elaborate of all with vignettes on four sides: celestial figures at top, the elements (earth, air, fire, water) at left, the four seasons at right, and the seven wonders of the ancient world across the bottom.
