[N. Sea] Seller, A Chart of the North Sea By John Seller Hydrographer to the King.... London, c. 1675. 17 x 21. Small margins, trimmed to neat line at top; slightly age-toned. Lower cf break repaired, else VG. Professionally cleaned and deacidified. SOLD
Oriented with north to the right. Shows coast of Norway as far as 64 degrees north. Very decorative with a large vignette of Neptune, compass rose, and various heraldic shields. The title cartouche bears the arms of Denmark, supported by "wild men."
Apparently an intermediate state: the title agrees with the first state as described by Tooley (#604) as it lacks the imprint of Colson, Fisher and Thornton. However, it does carry the dedication to William Warren (#614). MCCS No. 71: Printed Charts of Scandinavia Part II, #614 (variant).
