Pastoureau reports that the first contract between geographer Sanson and publisher Tavernier dates to 1648, and she lists this particular map in her bibliography with a date of 1658. Nonetheless "1643" appears on the map, though squeezed within the title cartouche. Pastoureau, Sanson V A 1658 (33).
