SOLD The Gulf of St. Lawrence north to James Bay and south to Lake Ontario, with a large (8¾ x 14½) inset of the Great Lakes. River systems, so crucial to the fur trade, are represented in the cartouche engraved by Catherine Haussard. It features a fierce-looking beaver with some imaginative lodges in the background. The inset includes the famous false islands in Lake Superior and the supposed plateau in lower Michigan. Fishing banks in the north Atlantic are indicated in stipple.
